Pickup Soccer Game
The Hampshire Dome, Milford, NH
Thursday, February 28
8:00 to 10:00 PM
Our
first Casting for Rainbows fund
raiser was a huge success! THANKS, THANKS and THANKS
again to
everyone who participated! A hundred people pulled in one direction,
providing food, drinks, music, a facility, thousands of dollars raised,
and a
tremendous feeling of community. You know that scene at the
end
of "It's a Wonderful Life"? It
was recreated in
Milford on Thursday night.
Several
players were unable to attend,
but half-a-dozen
teenage players subbed
in. We filled the three fields to
capacity, and everybody got to play. Careful
balancing of the teams
was thrown off by all the substitutions---because the subs were all
young,
fast, and good---but the result was that Katie Yamamoto played for the
entire
evening on an undefeated team!
And
the losing teams didn't seem to
care. There was a great atmosphere of fair play and
fellowship that
extended to the post-game festivities. Before the
event we
sent out a panicked
message to Tony's Team,
saying that
only knew of 3 people
bringing food and
they
responded by piling the tables high. When
the band quit, well
after 11:00, we loaded up the remaining guests with soda, beer, snacks,
and the
big bags of bread and bagels that Vinnie got from
Panera. A reporter
from the Hollis-Brookline Journal was there for more than 3 hours,
so you
can expect
some local press as well!
The Hampshire
Dome was wonderful and
we can not thank them enough for their support. Manager
Dan Wyborney went far beyond
anything we could have imagined: collecting
contributions at the door, adding
in the money collected
from the unaffiliated bicyclists on the track, and donating a $100 gift
certificate for pickup soccer.
THANKS
AGAIN EVERYONE! See you at
the next Team Tony Event!
